Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is making a British record £45million bid for Valencia striker David Villa.

Ferguson will take on Real Madrid for the signature of the Spanish star who will be sold by his cash-strapped club.

Villa has been on the United manager’s radar for several years and now he has the money from the £80m sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real to fight them for Villa.

Ferguson has been given a £100m war chest – the whole £80m from the Ronaldo transfer plus £20m extra.

Fergie’s priorities are a proven scorer like Villa and a right-wing replacement for the Portuguese star, Wigan’s Luis Antonio Valencia.

Villa will definitely be sold by his club, with Real boasting they should land him this week.

But Ferguson has already started his moves to beat them to it. Chelsea tried for Villa last week but were told he was going to Madrid.

But Fergie won’t be put off and he has the financial muscle to back it up.

The United chief thinks he can win the race for Villa if he can pitch the right case to him, backed up by cash. He is masterminding the move from his South of France holiday base.

David Villa Keeps Quiet About New Barcelona Bid & Broken Real Madrid Deal

The Valencia hitman’s future is up in the clouds again and he has declined to give an insight to the latest developments…

After the double news broke yesterday that Valencia had unilaterally severed negotiations with Real Madrid for the sale of David Villa and that Barcelona have been conducting open talks with Los Che for the striker, the Spanish press were jostling to get an update from the player himself after Sunday night’s Confederations Cup win over New Zealand.

‘El Guaje’, like the rest of his La Seleccion team-mates, passed through the post-match media zone at the end of the game but according to El Mundo Deportivo, the 27-year-old refused to give anything away about his future as he decided not to speak to anyone, as was the case last Saturday on the eve of the encounter when rumours were hot that he was on the verge of completing a move to Los Blancos.

Fresh reports from England are now suggesting that Manchester United are about to launch a mega €52.8 million bid for Spain’s number two all-time leading goalscorer and this is bound to send the media into another frenzy.

El Mundo has reported that the journalists had made a request to the Spanish Football Federation’s Press Department to officially organise a press conference for Villa today (Monday), although it remains to be seen if the striker will agree to an appearance.

La Furia Roja will now switch their training camp from Rustenburg to Bloemfontein in preparation for the next clash against Iraq, and if coach, Vicente del Bosque decides to give the players a day off training, Villa might just agree to the press conference.

I wouldn't say no but how would we fit him, Roo and Berba in?

In-demand Valencia striker David Villa has stated that he has already made a decision on where his future lies.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are leading the chase for the Spanish striker, who is also reportedly wanted by Premier League giants Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Villa has previously stated his desire to remain in Spain and after scoring the winner in his country's 1-0 Confederations Cup win over Iraq, he revealed that he had already decided where his future lies.

Valencia do not want to sell, but their precarious financial position means a transfer seems inevitable.

"I have made my decision," Villa told the press following the game in Bloemfontein after again being quizzed about his future.

"My agent knows my wishes, and he is now working on that - so I am relaxed.

"There is no deadline on the subject, and I really do not have any more details as this whole thing is not totally dependent on me."

yes he'll sign for Real Madrid. anyway we dont need another player who wants to eventually join Real Madrid, do we? Both he and benzema can go wherever they want as far as Im concerned. We'll be fine.

We don't need Ronaldo Saga version 2. So no thanks, though I like him as a player.
