United hot on the trail of Chile international

As Manchester United contemplate life after Cristiano Ronaldo, setanta.com can reveal that the Old Trafford club have held talks with the Chile international Alexis Sanchez.

The agent of the Udinese forward claimed that the player’s representatives have held talks with United as well as a number of other English teams regarding a proposed transfer to The Premier League.

Last summer United registered a formal interest in the 20-year-old, who had just spent a year on loan at River Plate, only for Udinese to rebuff The Red Devils.

An eye-catching season in Serie A during which Sanchez made 32 first-team appearances for Udinese was proof of their prudence.

With United now eyeing a replacement for the Real Madrid bound Ronaldo, Nino Maravilla, or Wonder Kid, could complete a transfer that has been a year in the making.

Sanchez’s agent Fernando Felicevich told setanta.com: “My partner is currently in England working on the transfer of Alexis.

“Yes, we have spoken to Manchester United, but not just to United. We have also held talks with other English teams.

“We are trying to do the transfer this summer.”

Here's a good video, lets you see how well he can beat players, cross and shoot - obviously these compilations are only the good bits so doesn't offer a fair assessment but certainly helps. He looks good, certainly my favourite player we've been linked with as he's young and reasonsably unknown and I'm not for us signing big names like Ribery, Benzema or Huntelaar. Looks like he's got a wicked left foot on him, seems to be good with both though.

HQ (high quality) is available for this video but you'll have to follow the link to get that option, here you go:

I like the look of him, wikipedia says he can play as a winger or forward. Ronaldo esque in that way. What's his pace like? Hard to judge from that video, certainly has the tricks though but not really the goals from the looks of things, 3 goals in 32 apps.

Nobody's got goals like Ronaldo does though, that's the problem. Wingers don't score lots of goals, Ronaldo was different in that way but then he wasn't an out and out winger. Valencia's only got three goals in a similar number of games but yes you're still right, we're going to need the goals from somewhere.

It's Rooneys time to shine really. We're going to need another striker if Tevez goes regardless- we can't expect our youngsters to provide the goals.

as long as you only have to replace goals, well be alright (RVN), the problem is when you have to replace creation of goals. We'll have to spread more the goals between midfielders, defenders and of course rooney and berba

I think when we're playing well we'll get goals fine, but who's going to get us out of sticky situations now when we're not playing well? Ronaldo's vital goal vs Villa (which was overshadowed by Macheda's), obviously the one against Porto and there are many others. Rooney can't change a game the way Ronaldo can when they're having off days but perhaps that was due to him playing out of position so hopefully that'll allow him to change that.

thats an excellent point, hopefully we'll play better as a team and have those off days less frequently than we've had lately. Nani is a match winner, rooney, hopefully berba, but thats about it. We need another player who can create magic against the normal passage of a game, like ronaldo did so many times. In my opinion every one of the attacking positions should be filled by a player capable of this, we're manchester united and its in our tradition. Park can play if we play 4-4-2, otherwise we need those 3 attacking players to have some magic. Nani berba and rooney would be my choices

Looks good...lots of pace and good crossing ability seemingly...
Few if any of those tricks will work in England though
