FMU Desktop Wallpaper designs

Hi guys & girls,

I have just been mucking around in photoshop today since I had some free time and I have come up with a couple of designs for some FMU desktop wallpapers. Both are similer in concept but with some variation. I would love some feeback on these.

FMU 1 (1440x900)

FMU 2 (1280x800)

p.s: I make no excuse for my very inconsistent nature of making both of these wallpapers different sizes

V's Bundesliga blog

Well for the last two season I have been posting most weeks about the German Bundesliga as it is the league I watch most and really no one else follows it on here so it tends to become a monolog/blog so this season I will name it as so. I will post latest news, results and league standings as well as my match reviews from games I watch throughout the season. So if you have the time and want to catch up on the latest happenings of Germany's top flight please enjoy this thread.

2010/11 season

With a new season comes many changes and a new facelift for Europes 4th ranked league. The new logo is very similer to the old one however the DFB have also updated and changed all the media interface for the television coverage and web presence. The new look website looks great and is well organised while there is also a new intro theme to games, preview & highlight shows that I personally think looks quite snazy. I think they tave taken a bit from the EPL intro with the focus of clubs colours and logos on everyday people/fans.

There has also been 2 changes to the league members this season with 2 teams promoted from 2. Bundesliga and 2 teams relegated. These changes are:

Promoted:
1. FC Kaiserslautern
FC St. Pauli

Relegated:
VfL Bochum
Hertha Berlin

This means out of the 18 teams competing for this season Bundesliga title there are Zero teams from the German capital of Berlin competing. This is the first time this has happened since 1997 when Hertha were promoted to the top flight which ended a spell of 6 seasons without representation by a team in Berlin in the top flight in Germany. Let's hope Hertha re-group and are able to get promoted for next season as it would be a shame not to have a team from Berlin in the top flight for another long spell.

There has also been some key and important comings and goings in the transfer market in the Bundesliga for this season. Clubs like Schalke 04 who are having financial problems have had to sell top players to reduce wage budget while teams like Hamburg have spent to get back into the elite of German football and make europe for next season by finishing in the top 6. Something they normally do but failed at last season. here is a list of some of the most important and biggest departures and captures around the league:

Signings:
Raúl (Schalke 04)
Christoph Metzelder (Schalke 04)
Michael Ballack (Leverkusen)
Simon Kjær (Wolfsburg)
Emanuel Pogatetz (Hannover 96)
Rubin Okotie (1. FC Nurnburg)

Departures:
Luca Toni (Genoa)
Rafinha (Genoa)
Kevin Kurányi (Dynamo Moscow)
Mesut Özil (Real Madrid)
Sami Khedira (Real Madrid)
Nelson Valdez (Hércules CF)
Jérôme Boateng (Manchester City)
Aristide Bancé (Al Ahli)

Another interesting change in the league is the introduction of the very first English manager (head coach as they refer to them in Germany) in former England national team manager and Manchester United assistant Steve McClaren who has been appointed to the top job at ambitious VFL Wolfsburg after the Englishman won the Eradivisie last season with FC Twente in Holland.

Wolfsburg have recruited well and have a good chance at doing very well this season. Many tipping them to challenge for the title they won for the first time 2 seasons ago. With the financial backing of Volkswagen Steve will have the funds to shape the team to his choosing. He does however need to brush up on his German as at the moment he speaks very little. Steve does bring to Wolfsburg a history of winning at club level as he was very successful as assistant at United, won the Carling Cup and made a UEFA Cup final with Boro and of course won the Eradivisie league title with FC Twente. Wolfsburg will be hoping he continues that winning trend.

The last new additon to the Bundesliga this season is the introduction of the first Offical Bundesliga ball. The EPL has had an offical ball for years and now the Bundesliga has felt it is time to introduce an official ball. The ball design sports the traditional colours of the league (red & white) as well as the new league logo while it also has the grooves that adidas used on the World Cup ball in South Africa this year. The ball has been christened "Torfabrik" which roughly translates to "Goal Machine" which the big honcho's at the DFB hope will continue the goal flury in the league.

Overall It is an exciting time to be a part of the league with an increasing amount of goals (Bundesliga has had the highest amount of goals per season than any league in Europe for the past 5 seasons) and fan attendance which is as huge as ever (largest average crowd figures in any European league). And I hope to see a continued push to overtake the Italian Serie A in the league rankings as the Bundesliga is very close now. All this will ensure this season of the Bundesliga will be as exciting and passionate as ever.

I was thinking about our best play Park Ji Sung the other day. I was thinking how well will he do this Season? I think he will beat his last seasons goal count of 4 and will get 15 goals. He will keep battling hard in middle of the park and wings. I think he will make a third of Rooney's goals too if stays fit. So guys, what do you think of Park this season?

Bebe's Story

Quote

Bebe blunder! Manchester United could have had £7.4m signing for £125k

Manchester United could have signed Portuguese striker Bebe for as little as £125,000 last January, it was claimed last night.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson shocked the football world three weeks ago by sanctioning a £7.4million deal for a 20-year-old he had never even seen play on TV.

Bebe has not played competitive football at a level higher than the Portuguese third
division and Sportsmail can now reveal that his former club Estrela da Amadora touted him around Europe for just 150,000 euros as they desperately sought cash to
stave off a winding-up order.

Former Estrela coach Jorge Paxaio told Sportsmail last night: ‘Last season we had
no money at all. We were trying to transfer Bebe to other clubs. We had to raise money
desperately. We told everyone in England and in Europe: “For 150,000 Euros you can
have him”. We couldn’t get anybody interested. Nobody trusted him. None of the clubs were interested because he had never played at a high level.

‘I was surprised with the sudden way it happened with United. I was hoping he would move to a bigger club in Portugal or to a medium-sized club in Europe. I didn’t expect Manchester United.’

Bebe grew up and lived in a homeless shelter outside Lisbon until he tore up his contract with Estrela and moved to Portuguese Premier League club Guimaraes on a free transfer in the summer.

Last season he earned £12,000 a year at Estrela, the same amount he now earns at United in a week.

Last night, Bebe’s former agent Goncalo Reis said: ‘Bebe would have been very cheap during last season and then we tore up the contract because he wasn’t being paid by Estrela and so then he was free.

‘A scout from United could have contacted me or the club last season. There was no secret. But I understand that the United scout just saw certain games in Portugal and only realised Bebe was a great player when he saw some pre-season games involving Guimaraes.

‘If they had looked wider they would have seen him earlier and paid very little. But everyone was the same.’

Bebe is back in Portugal this week after being selected for the Under 21 squad for the first time. He could face England tomorrow night.

Coach Paxaio added: ‘Having said this, Manchester United have signed an extraordinary player.’

Daily Mail

I thought that was known anyway, I mean we could have had him for free..
But still if it works out, we won't be complaining..

Anyway the main point of this thread is I just read a article about him which is pretty humbling
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1308178/Revealed-The-incredible-rise-lost-street-kid--Manchester-Uniteds-new-Bebe.html

I think it points to how it could take a while for him to be ready, especially mentally but I think that's okay.
Hopefully he'll be a real 'diamond in the rough!' (Yes, I've been watching Aladdin )

Looks like Man United MIGHT not have to drop any of the players from the team unless we make any new, unexempted signings.. This is how things are at the moment:

The Rules

Any player born after 1st January 1989 is considered an U21 player and exempt from the list.
source: http://www.premierleague.com/page/Headlines/0,,12306~2094341,00.html

In keeping with UEFA guidelines, an Under 21 player is defined as one who is under the age of 21 on 1st January in the year in which the season commences. For the 2010/11 campaign Under 21 players will have been born on or after 1st January 1989.

Only 25 players in the Man Utd squad are over 21 and therefore need registering. (The squalist below had 41 players out of which 16 seem to be U21)
Thats right the FA feel they will fail in their pursuit of getting Mikel Arteta eligable to play for the Three Lions despite the Spanyard having spent the past five years in England all because of this article 18.1.a.

Article 18.1.a states that that any player who has represented their country in an official competition, at whatever level, would at that time need to have held a passport for the country they later wish to play for in order to be permitted to make the switch.

Arteta played for Spain at the u16 euros and u17 world championships.

To me this seems silly as Spain clearly won't give him a chance in their national team and England really want him to play for them. Arteta himself said he would "consider it very seriously" if approached to play for England. Like it seems he will be punished for playing football at a younger age for Spain that now will give him zero chance at a international career.

Like I really think they should change the rules so that age representation becomes valid as friendlies or something because then you are not restricted to representing that country as the new rules go.

Ibra completes Milan medical

Quote

Ibra completes Milan medical

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has completed his medical to seal his loan move to AC Milan from Barcelona.

The 28-year-old, who watched Sunday's 4-0 win over Lecce in Milan's Serie A opener, left their training ground after the tests to join the Sweden squad for their upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers.

His move, which Milan hope will catapult them back above his former club and perennial champions Inter Milan, is initially a season-loan with the Rossoneri then paying 24 million euros to secure his services permanently.

Milan said in a second statement that on Monday alone 1,137 fans bought Serie A season tickets out of a total of 21,945 sold so far in the two-month sale period.

Ibrahimovic's arrival back in Italy after just a season at Barca has left Milan striker Marco Borriello considering his future given his first-team place is likely to go to the Swede.

Media reports have said Juventus are trying to loan Borriello before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.

"We are talking, soon we'll know more," Borriello told www.gazzetta.it.

Milan, who also boast Ronaldinho and Alexandre Pato in their attacking trident, have also been linked in the media with a late swoop for Manchester City's Robinho while the Rossoneri have said Klaas-Jan Huntelaar could leave, possibly to Schalke.

Mascherano set for Barcelona move

Quote

Javier Mascherano set for Barcelona switch as Liverpool agree fee for rebel midfielder

Javier Mascherano is set for a move to Barcelona after Liverpool confirmed terms for the transfer of the Argentina captain had been agreed.

Earlier this week Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson insisted Mascherano would see out the remaining two years of his Anfield contract if the club's valuation of the player was not met.

But the 26-year-old, who was also linked with a move to join former Reds boss Rafael Benitez at Inter Milan, now appears close to a switch to the Nou Camp.

A statement on Liverpool's website read: 'Liverpool Football Club have agreed terms for the transfer of Javier Mascherano to FC Barcelona.

'The Spanish club have now been given permission to speak to the Argentina midfielder.'
Mascherano, who is under contract at Anfield until 2012, had made it clear to Liverpool that he wanted a move overseas in order to be reunited with his family, with his wife refusing to move to England, and now his wish appears close.

The midfielder was again left out of the squad for last night's 2-1 Europa League play-off win at Trabzonspor in Turkey after a bid of £16million from Barcelona was rejected.

Ahead of the match at Trabzonspor, Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson said it was still a possibility Mascherano would play for the Reds in Sunday's Barclays Premier League fixture with West Brom.

However, it now appears the Primera Division champions have stumped up the required sum to prise Mascherano away from Liverpool and to the Nou Camp, where the Argentinian would be united with international team-mate Lionel Messi.

Barcelona confirmed a four-year deal for Mascherano was close and is set to be completed this weekend.

A statement on the Barcelona website, www.fcbarcelona.cat, read: 'FC Barcelona and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Javier Mascherano to the club for the next four seasons.

'"The deal was closed after intensive efforts made by the club in the final hours and through the player himself in the negotiations.

'Barcelona will report the details of the operation once the player passes the medical and the transfer is concluded. It is hoped Javier Mascherano will arrive in Barcelona this weekend.'
Now I know it is still early on in the season but Berbatov really does look like a changed man for the team this season. He has finally found good form after two seasons of indiference and I for one am so happy to finally be seeing Berba play so well for the club. I have not been the biggest fan of the guy since his move to Man Utd but if he continues to play well and score an contribute to the scoring of goals I am sure I will be a turned fan of his.

World Cup bid 2018 & 2022

Well over the past 6 to 8 months we have seen changes to the candidates to host both of these World Cups. It has now been clearly separated into Europe's 2018 World Cup and rest of the world 2022 world cup despite the United States still bidding for both.

England claim to be the fav for the 2018 edition after successfully witling down the number of bidding nations to only Europe eliminating the USA and Australia's chances at hosting in 2018 and to say England are favs is only a fair judgement however Sepp Blatter today told England's bidding team through the media out of Singapore that Russia remain really strong contenders and nothing is set in stone yet [link]. Russia is really the only European nation that I can see has the power behind their bid to challenge England for the right to host the 2018 World Cup. The other European nations are relying on more complex joint ventures and really don't have the same power to swing sufficient enough votes their way to win the race.

The 2022 edition seems more wide open than its predecessor. The USA, Australia and South Korea all seem to have strong bids. Originally it was thought it would be a two horse race between the States and Australia but the FIFA executive committee was most impressed by Koreas bid when they visited there recently for an inspection. Another bid that is being talked about a lot is the Middle Eastern bid of Qatar which has the backing of AFC President Mohammed Bin Hammam who is from Qatar. This posses a big problem to Australia's bid as one of our closest allies will not be supporting the Australian bid as it fragments the Asian football community. Another big issue for Australia is the fact China is planning on bidding for the 2026 World Cup and it is unlikely FIFA will go with Asia twice in a row and China is a lot bigger contender where FIFA wants to influence the game.

Rafael Van der Vaart rumours surface!

Quote

Van der Vaart interested in Old Trafford transfer

Van der Vaart, who represented Netherlands at the World Cup finals, could be surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu as Real have signed Mesut Ozil, Angel Di Maria and Sergio Canales to play in advanced midfield roles this summer.

While the former Ajax and Hamburg star recently said he does not want to leave the club, the prospect of a move to Old Trafford has forced him to reconsider his position.

"I could never play for another club in Spain and the truth is that if you are leaving Real Madrid, there is only one club you can join that is not a step down - and that's Manchester United," Van der Vaart told the Daily Express.

"They are a huge club and if the reported interest they have in me turns out to be true, then I would really have to sit down and listen.

"If Manchester United could offer me first-team football with the situation as it is at Madrid, it would be very hard to turn down. Alex Ferguson is a great coach and I would never think about joining a team where I didn't believe I could win things, so all of a sudden that limits your choices.

"At Manchester United you know success is likely and that's a big factor for me at this stage of my career. "If [Real boss] Jose Mourinho makes it clear I won't play much, I see my future in English football."

Brazilian club Santos to sign Possebon

Quote

Santos to sign Possebon

United midfielder Rodrigo Possebon is set to join Brazilian club Santos.

The deal is still in progress and is expected to be completed on Friday 20 August, but the two-times FIFA Club World Cup winners are keen to herald Possebon's imminent arrival.

A story on the Santos website on Thursday night (UK time) spoke of a four-year deal and the player, born in Brazil but an Italy U20 international, is quoted as saying: "It is a unique opportunity and I will work hard to give my best here. I hope to play a lot of football."

Possebon, now 21, joined United in January 2008 from Brazilian side Internacional and made his first-team debut as a substitute on the opening day of the 2008/09 season.

Since then, however, he has managed just eight first-team appearances, although he's often impressed for the Reserves. He spent the first half of last season on loan at Sporting Braga in Portugal before returning to Old Trafford in January 2010.

Wish him all the best.. It's a shame he failed to impress, he was one of my favourites..
